Description

Ried Dürrau – Expression of a Grand Cru

A world-class Blaufränkisch from the heart of Horitschon – powerful, profound, and elegant. Grown from 66-year-old vines, this Mittelburgenland DAC Reserve captures the essence of the legendary Ried Dürrau: dense clay soils, pure fruit, and precise structure. A wine of origin, history, and extraordinary maturity – monumental, yet refined.

The combination of traditional vinification, extended lees aging, and the masterful use of French barrique and Austrian oak casks makes this Blaufränkisch one of Austria’s truly great wines – with nearly endless aging potential.

A wine that speaks of its origin – authentic, characterful, and majestic.

Tasting Notes

Appearance:
Deep ruby garnet with an almost black core and violet reflections. Dense and clear with a fine watery rim – a visual promise of concentration and elegance.

Nose:
Intense and intricately layered. Aromas of wild berries, black cherries, and blackberries lead the way, underpinned by spicy notes of cinnamon, thyme, and juniper. A subtle earthiness adds depth, while hints of dark chocolate and delicate oak create refined accents. The bouquet is complex, multifaceted, and precisely defined.

Palate:
Fresh, powerful, and well-structured. Ripe black cherries and dark berry fruit dominate, supported by juicy tannins and fine herbal spice. The oak is seamlessly integrated, enhancing the structure and depth without overpowering. The body is voluminous and extract-rich, yet clearly delineated. The finish is long and vibrant, marked by dark fruit, dark chocolate, and earthy spice – a finale full of tension and elegance.

Cellaring Potential: 15–25 years – gaining even more depth, complexity, and refinement with age.

A truly iconic Blaufränkisch from the Ried Dürrau – powerful, elegant, and multi-layered. A benchmark of terroir, craftsmanship, and aging potential. A wine with style, presence, and soul.
