Vineyards
Terroir: This is the sum of all the conditions in which a wine is grown.
Hochäcker
“High field” is the direct translation for this vineyard slope with a north-south exposure. Because it encourages an early budbreak, it is perfect for the late-ripening Blaufränkisch. Well-drained clay and marl is interspersed with pebbles and veins of iron. Fruity-spicy Blaufränkisch with cinnamon nuances is typical for this site.
Gfanger
“Steep terrain” is the direct translation for this vineyard slope which spreads from south-south west to north-north east and enjoys a view towards Lake Neusiedl and the Pannonian steppe. Sandy loam over a subsoil of clay-marl has good drainage yet simultaneously the ability to store water in dry years. This results in fruity, spicy, elegant Blaufränkisch with good aging potential every year.
Dürrau
“Dry river bed” is the direct translation for this vineyard slope with a southwest to northeast aspect. The soil remains cool even in the hottest years, ensuing depth of aroma and fruit in grapes. The extremely high clay and marl content reaches all the way to the surface and makes cultivation challenging. Due to these difficult circumstances, only the most vigorous vines survive by thrusting their roots deep into the soil. This results in expressive, elegant wines in which the quintessential Blaufränkisch character is enhanced.
Rager
This vineyard is a 15% slope with an east-southeast to west-northwest aspect. Deep, heavy loam covers calcareous subsoil. Budbreak is late in spring and the herbal notes of Merlot are preserved.
